Siegelman Case on 60 Minutes Blocked in Alabama

Unfortunately I was called away during much of the 60 Minutes piece tonight on the case of Don Siegelman, but I was able to catch the interview of a former US Attorney who said without question that the prosecution relied on false information to secure a conviction, and that the prosecution knew it was false, suppressed that it was false, and put Siegelman in jail anyway.

Scott Horton has almost singlehandedly broken this story wide open, and he has the video captured and analyzes the piece in detail. His post is a must read. As he explains, the star witness for CBS was the co-chair of the McCain for President campaign--the co-chair who isn't currently facing indictment (That would be Rick Renzi):

But the show was dominated by one of 52 former attorneys general from 40 of the 50 states who have called for a Congressional probe of the conduct of the Siegelman case, former Arizona Attorney General Grant Woods. He leveled a series of blistering accusations at the Bush Administration’s Justice Department. With the Alabama G.O.P. this evening issuing a near-hysterical statement in which it characterizes the CBS broadcast—before its transmission—as an anti-Republican attack piece it was notable that Woods, like the piece’s other star witness, is a Republican. Not just any Republican, either. Grant Woods is co-chair of the McCain for President leadership committee, and a lifelong friend and advisor to the presumptive 2008 G.O.P. presidential candidate. Woods is also godfather to one of the McCain children.

Furthermore, Horton reports that the episode of 60 Minutes was BLOCKED in northern Alabama by the CBS affiliate. Outrageous. Go read Scott's critical post.

GREAT JOB:
I think that 60 Minutes done a fantastic job. There’s a coverup from the Heart-of-Dixie all the way to Washington via Texas. I’m thankful that they were brave enough to stand up to all the corrupt people that are involved.

The Bush’s elete group of corrupt GOP’ers are scared to death that Don Siegelman may be on the streets before the election. Especially with Slick Bob combing his hair and spraying his mouth and under arms every Five minutes hoping that John McCain will name him as his running mate.

I think that Jill Simpson is a very brave and a very smart attorney. In my dealings with her I have noticed that she records everything. Like most attorneys in Alabama she has recorders on all her telephones. However, she frequently wears a microphone hidden in a button or in a lapel pin. She also has a miniature microphone built into her purse and case satchel. She has won many cases outside the court room because of private conversations that she has managed to record and pictures that she has taken. She has a few nice cameras and access to a telescoping camera lens as long as my arm.

If you’ll notice Mike Hubbert is performing a he said she said news release with the Associated Press. There is a reason that these outlaws are not doing their own interviews; they can’t be held accountable for the lies that Hubbert tells unless he was given written permission to speak in their behalf.

Let me finish with this, Attorney Simpson is smart. She has made copies of her tapes and pictures which are put away in safe places. I wouldn’t advise any outlaws to search her home or office unless they want their pictures on her surveillance tapes.

If a Democrat wins as the next president he/she will probally appoint new U.S. Attorneys in Alabama. Riley along with most of the top GOP operatives could get Federal charges filed against them for taking millions of dollars from Michael Scanlon and Jack Abramoff to defeating Siegelmans lottery and for Riley's election campaigns.
